The Central Regional Minister, Hon Justina Marigold Assan has promised to make Central Region be the most greenest Region among the sixteen regions in Ghana.
Under the Green Ghana Project launch at the Regional Coordinating Council and University of Cape Coast,the minister said, if all help to plant trees in the country ,it will help to eradicate many diseases as well as environmental problems such as soil erosion,flooding amongst other problems in the country.
In an interview with Media,Mrs.Marigold Assan stressed that,the Forestry Commission has provided the Region 40,000 seedlings to be planted in which the Region has been able to nurse 150,000 seedlings making 550,000 seedlings to planted across the region.
“Some of the Regions are lobbying for one million seedlings but Central Region will go beyond that because my aim is to make Central Region green than any other Region in the country”, she disclosed.
Meanwhile the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast,Prof.Nyarkoh Boanpong expressed his gratitude for such an important project to make Ghana Green by planting trees since human beings depend on trees for survival.
He said, Ghana Forestry Commission has provided them with 30,000 seedlings in which they have also nursed 50,000 making 80,000 to be planted in the institution.
He explained that,aside all the benefits they will get from planting the trees in the institution,it will also help to prevent those who are encroaching their land since they can’t cut down the trees for their projects or other activities.
